9th parliament expires on Friday

DHAKA: The tenure of action-packed ninth parliament of the country expired on Friday which started its journey exactly at five years ago.

The ninth Jatiya Sangsad has been experienced several attributed incidents such as forming International war crimes tribunal, cancellation of Fifth Amendment of constitution, enacting the maximum number of laws and so on.

Allude to, the system of caretaker government had been abolished by ratifying the 15th amendment of constitution within this term of house.

There were ups and downs in the ninth parliament so that some of its activities were deemed as controversial. Experts say the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) remained feeble in action due to government’s interference.

Moreover, Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) was divided into two parts as North DCC and South DCC and the textbooks of class one to ten are given to the students countrywide for free of cost within this time limit.

Furthermore, the ninth Jatiya Sangsad had 418 working days which is the highest number ever in the parliament. On the other hand, the presence of the opposition in the house was unsatisfactory.

The ninth Parliament had had Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury as a maiden woman speaker of the country.

The first session of the new parliament will be geared up now on from January 29, as a motion of 10th Jatiya Sangsad where the main opposition is Jatiya Party this time instead of BNP.
