A court in Chattogram has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to a man for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in the playground of KPZ located at Karnaphuli police station.

Sirajudullah Qutbi, a judge of the Chattogram Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-6, delivered this verdict convicting Sohail Mia, 34.

State Counsel Advocate Nazrul Islam Sentu confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

He said the tribunal sentenced Sohel to life imprisonment and 1 month imprisonment with a fine of 10,000 taka as the allegations of sexually assaulting the victim was proved by the testimonial of 7 witnesses. The accused was present before tribunal during the judgment.

According to case statement, the victim on the afternoon of September 13, 2018 was abducted by Sohail from the shrine area of Mohsen Awlia (R:) to Kafko Center area of Karnaphuli police station.

On September 14, the girl was lured in different ways to the KEPZ field and raped several times against her will, read statement.

Later, the victim’s father lodged a complaint against Sohail.
