Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today (August 9) predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over five divisions, at many places over other three divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, at many places over Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country," said a met office forecast for next 24 hours begins from 9am today.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam and across the central part of Bangladesh.

One of its associated troughs extends up to the North Bay. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay.

Country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded 34.5 degree Celsius at Dinajpur district and today's minimum temperature 24.2 degree Celsius was recorded at Bandarban district.

Maximum rainfall for the last twenty-four hours till 6am today was recorded 97 millimeters (mm) at Tetulia.

The sun sets at 06.36pm today and rises at 05.32am tomorrow in the capital.
