The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, issued a ruling in favour of forming an interim government.
Following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government, President Md Shahabuddin dissolved the National Parliament and sought the Supreme Court's opinion on forming an interim government in the absence of a sitting parliament.
Consequently, the court provided its opinion under Article 106 of the Constitution, stating that an interim government could be established, comprising a Chief Advisor and several advisors, in the absence of a parliament.
Shortly after receiving the court's opinion at 9pm last night, the President administered the oath of office to the appointed advisors, officially marking the formation of the 17-member interim government led by Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.
Sources at the law ministry have confirmed the matter.
