BSS Sylhet bureau chief killed in road crash

Sylhet bureau chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Maksud Ahmad Maksud was killed in a motorcycle accident on Sylhet-Sunamganj highway in the early hours of Friday.

Maksud's younger brother Muajjin Ahmad confirmed the matter saying that his brother and his banker friend Galib were returning home by a motorbike around 2.30am.

When the motorcycle reached the Madina Market point of Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway, it suddenly lost control and hit an electric pole, leaving the vehicle overturned.

Maksud and Galib were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared Maksud dead, Muajjin claimed.

Galib is now undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Son of late Jamshed Ali of Maiyarchar area in Sylhet city, Maksud, 50, was the eldest among his six siblings.

He left behind his mother, siblings, wife, two sons and a host of other relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

Maksud was serving at the Sylhet Online Press Club as its general secretary before his death. Besides, he had been involved in different social and cultural activities throughout his life.

Maksud was due to be buried Friday at his family graveyard in Maiyarchar area in the city following a namaz-e-janaza at Maiyarchar Central Jame Masjid.

On behalf of the BSS family, its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Maksud Ahmed.

In a condolence message, he prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
