2 ‘robbers’ killed in Rangpur

RANGPUR: Two suspected robbers were shot to death and another sustained bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Shotbari area under Mithapukur upazila of the district early Friday.

The law enforcers, however, held three ‘robbers’ with a pistol and two choppers.

The deceased were identified as Ripon,32, of Mithapukur Sadar upazila and Jahangir,28.

Mithapukur thana Officer-in-Charge Moazzem Hossain told banglanews, “A gang of robbers faced off a team of patrol police while fleeing after committing robbery at a Petrol Pump in Shotibari area.

During the time, robbers opened fire on police, in retaliation, police also fired back, leaving Ripon shot dead on the spot and injured two others.

Later, Jahangir died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

The bodies were kept at morgue.  

On the other hand, Ripon’s mother told banglanews, “ Police picked-up her son from home at night and shot him to death near the petrol pump.”

She also claimed that  her son was not involved in a robbery.
