Mashrafe, his father, among 90 sued in Narail

Former captain of Bangladesh national cricket team Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and his father, among 90 people, were sued on charge of launching attacks on students and people during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Sheikh Mostafa AL-Muzahidur Rahman Palash filed the case with Narail Sadar Police Station on Tuesday night. Saiful Islam, officer in charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, confirmed the case.

Mashrafe's father Golam Mortaza Swapan was among the accused.

According to the case statement, Mashrafe and his father, along with others equipped with sharp weapons and arms, held a rally at the Narail intersection on August 4 during the quota reform movement.

When the procession of students demanding the resignation of Sheikh Hasina reached Russel Setu, the accused attacked the students. They also fired gunshots during the clash, leaving some protesters injured, according to the case statement.

According to the case document, Mashrafe, his father, and several others armed with sharp weapons organized a rally at the Narail intersection during the quota reform movement on August 4.

As a group of students calling for the resignation of Sheikh Hasina approached Russel Setu, the accused assaulted the students. During the clash, they also discharged firearms, resulting in injuries to several demonstrators, the case statement added.
