Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 275 kilograms of Bangladeshi Hilsa while it was being smuggled into India through Sunamganj border on Wednesday.

The operation, carried out by the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), took place in the early hours today in the Ghilatoli area of Doarabazar upazila in Sunamganj.

According to BGB sources, a patrol team from the Banglabazar Border Outpost (BOP), under the Sylhet Battalion, conducted a special operation in the border area of Ghilatoli. During the operation, they intercepted the smuggling attempt, seizing 275kg of Hilsa, valued at approximately Tk 5.5 lakh.

However, the smugglers managed to flee, abandoning the fish when they noticed the BGB patrol approaching.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Hafizur Rahman PSC, commander of the 48 BGB Sylhet Battalion, said, "As per the directives of the interim government, BGB's surveillance and intelligence operations are continuing along the border to prevent smuggling and ensure security."

The seized Hilsa will be handed over to local customs authorities.
