The interim government has removed Ruhul Amin from the post of khatib at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
In a notification on Sunday, the religious affairs ministry said Ruhul Amin has been removed from the post following due process.
He was in hiding since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on 5 August in the face of the student movement.
On 20 September, followers of Ruhul Amin and incumbent khatib, Waliur Rahman Khan, clashed at the mosque, leaving more than 50 people injured.
The altercation occurred around 12:30pm when Waliur Rahman was delivering a sermon before the Jumma prayers, said witnesses.
The tension escalated as Ruhul Amin entered the mosque with his followers and forcibly took the microphone from Waliur, sparking a confrontation between the two groups.
