Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association (DRTOA) today (Sep 23) announced that students from Tuesday will enjoy half-fare seven days of a week.
Saiful Alam, general secretary of DRTOA made the announcement in a meeting of the organisation held at the Institution of Engineers in the capital.
He said students will enjoy the facility during 6am-12am every day, for that they have to be with uniform or educations organization’s photo attached ID card.
Bus owners, leaders of transport workers, senior police officers and government road transport officials attended the event organised to raise awareness among bus owners and employees for restoring order on roads.
The traffic order on roads and highways broke down with the fall of autocratic Awami League government on 5 August, and still remains unruly, despite continuous remedial attempts being taken by students and police.
Notably, Saiful Alam was appointed as the new chief of DRTOA in the wake of Awami League’s ouster from power to help improve the road transport sector.
The bus owners have decided to expand the half-fare facility for students to appreciate their special role in the ouster of Awami League’s dictatorial government, said a joint statement issued by Nirapad Sarak Andolon (NISA) and DRTOA.
