A Dhaka court today (Oct 9) sentenced one man to death and four others to life imprisonment in connection with the killing of Taslima Begum Renu by a mob in Badda, Dhaka, in July 2019.

Ibrahim, also known as Hridoy Mollah, received the death penalty, while Abul Kalam Azad, Kamal Hossain, Asadul Islam, and Hriya Begum Moyna were sentenced to life imprisonment, equating to 30 years in prison.

Judge Mohammad Morshed Alam of the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court in Dhaka delivered the verdict in a packed courtroom, with all the convicts present.

The judge also imposed a fine of Tk 1 lakh on each, with an additional one-year prison term for non-payment.
