Students demand President's resignation, ban on BCL

Students staged a demonstration at Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Tuesday (October 22), presenting a five-point demand, including the resignation of Bangladesh President Shahabuddin.

The event was attended by Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement, among others.

They reiterated their call for Shahabuddin's resignation and urged the banning of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the Awami League.

Earlier, protesters under the banner of the Shadhinota-Shorbobhoumotto Rokkha Committee (SHAROC) began their march towards Bangabhaban from Dhaka University at noon.

Meanwhile, they faced police obstruction near the High Court Mazar intersection.

They attempted to stage a sit-in inside Bangabhaban but the members of law enforcement agencies barred them from going there. The demonstrators then held a rally outside Bangabhaban, where they delivered speeches for half an hour.

During the demonstration protesters announced that if their demands are not met, they will gather near Bangabhaban again at 4 pm on Wednesday.
