A Jhenaidah court sentenced two men to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of five people in Shailkupa.
The verdict was announced on Tuesday (Oct 29) afternoon by Judge Md Zakariah of the Jhenaidah District and Sessions Judge's Second Court.
The convicted are Ali Reza, also known as Kalu, and Mohsin Ali. Notorious criminal Ali Reza, however, remains absconding.
According to the case statement, on December 4, 2003, a group of terrorists attacked and killed Shahid Kha of Sheikhpara village, Shahnewaz, Faruk, and Nuru Kana of Tribeni village, and Kota from Bhabanipur, Kushtia.
The victims were brutally shot and hacked to death in a field in Tribeni village, Shailkupa.
The next day, police filed a murder case against 36 individuals.
On March 1, 2005, police submitted a charge sheet against 15 people, four of whom have since passed away. Following lengthy proceedings and testimonies from 22 witnesses, the court sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment, while acquitting the others in the case.
