India considers Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League President and former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, as a "former prime minister," according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
This clarification was provided by ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a weekly briefing on Thursday (November 7).
The statement came in response to a question from an Indian journalist, following an Awami League congratulatory message to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, which referred to Sheikh Hasina as the "Prime Minister of Bangladesh."
Jaiswal reiterated India’s stance, stating, “We have said before that we consider her a former prime minister of Bangladesh. This is our position.”
Sheikh Hasina left for India on August 5, following widespread student-led protests in Bangladesh. Since then, she has been residing in India.
