Law Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul said the interim government has made a policy decision to repeal the much-debated Cyber Security Act (CSA), after which, all harassment cases filed under the Act against journalists will also be dropped.

Dr. Nazrul made the remark on Friday (Nov 8) while speaking as the chief guest at the "DRU-Desh TV Best Reporting Award 2024" event at Dhaka Club.

On Thursday (Nov7), the advisory council of the interim government reached a consensus to repeal the controversial law, which has reportedly been misused to target journalists and others in various fields.

Dr. Nazrul assured, "Once the Cyber Security Act is repealed, all cases under this Act will be canceled automatically, with no need for journalists to file applications. However, cases related to pornography and sexual harassment will still be pursued."

The adviser emphasized that no harassment cases have been filed against journalists during the interim government’s tenure. 

He clarified that if any cases were filed by families of martyrs during recent student protests, the government’s intervention is limited, though they have advised sensitivity on such matters.
