Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) authorities conducted an operation in Capital’s Mirpur and seized 102 autorickshaws, which were later sold at auction for a total of Tk 1.85 million.
The operation was conducted on Monday (Nov 11) to remove unauthorized battery-powered autorickshaws from major city roads.
DNCC conducted the operation in front of Mirpur Bangla School and College, starting in the afternoon and continued until evening.
Public Relations Officer of DNCC Mokbul Hossain confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
He said DNCC Executive Magistrate Md. Mahbub Hasan led the operation, which seized 102 autorickshaws and 376 batteries. Later, those rickshaws were auctioned openly, generating Tk 1.85 million.
Mahbub Hasan said that the operation began last week as part of an effort to reduce heavy traffic congestion and accidents caused by unauthorized autorickshaws on main roads.
Such operations will continue to ensure smoother traffic and safer roads, he added.
