Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to address the Opening Session of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at COP29 on Wednesday (Nov 13).
"Professor Yunus will deliver his address at the summit's Opening Session, expected between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm Bangladesh time," according to a statement from his press wing.
COP29, which began yesterday in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, sees Prof Yunus on a four-day visit to participate in the climate conference.
On the opening day, Prof Yunus had a busy schedule, meeting with at least 20 top leaders from various countries and heads of international organizations, as reported in a message received in Dhaka.
Among the prominent figures he met were Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the First Lady of Turkey, during the world leaders' summit at the COP29 venue.
He met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahiyan on the sidelines of the global climate summit too.
Also, the Chief Adviser met and greeted Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mohamed Muizzu, the President of the Maldives, Tshering Tobgay, the Prime Minister of Bhutan and Ramchandra Paudel, the President of Nepal.
Among others, Prof Yunus met the Prime Minister of Belgium, President of Ghana, Prime Minister of Bosnia Herzegovina, President of Rwanda, Prime Minister of Albania, President of Montenegro, Prime Minister of Barbados, Vice Presidents of Brazil and Iran, President of FIFA and Director General of IOM.
Besides, Ahmed Eltayeb, the Grand Imam of the Al-Azhar Al Sharif, called on Prof Yunus at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Baku yesterday morning.
The Chief Adviser arrived in Baku by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight around 5:15 pm Monday.
