July uprising victims return to hospital after advisers' assurances

The injured participants of the July-August uprising returned to the hospital following assurances from the interim government.

Four advisers met with the demonstrators outside the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), where they had been protesting since Wednesday, demanding adequate medical care and the resignation of Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum.

To ease tensions, Legal Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar, Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud, Adviser Mahfuz Alam, and Health Assistant Dr. Md Sayedur Rahman arrived at the scene around 2:30 am on Thursday.

The advisers admitted their shortcomings, offered apologies, and announced a meeting to address the group's demands at 2 pm on Thursday at the Secretariat.

They pledged transportation for representatives and promised to implement a treatment and rehabilitation plan by December. Adviser Mahfuz Alam assured the protesters of a comprehensive plan and expressed regret for the lack of adequate support.

Legal Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul acknowledged past failures, requesting trust in delivering a clear, written roadmap. Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud noted the challenges of managing multiple crises and proposed forming a team to monitor the plan's implementation.

Following these commitments, the injured agreed to return to the hospital, accompanied by the advisers, who later departed at around 4:15 am after checking on other patients at Nitor.
