Onion imports resume through Hili land port

Onion imports through Hili land port in Dinajpur resumed on Wednesday (November 27) as export slot bookings within India have started.

The import operation restarted as five trucks loaded with onions entered Bangladesh between 11:30 am and noon.

However, potato imports remain suspended.

Onion imports had been halted for the past three days due to disruptions in slot bookings on the Indian side, causing significant losses for traders.

Sakhawat Hossain Shilpi, president of the Hili Land Port Import-Export Group, confirmed the development.

According to him, the issue was resolved on Tuesday night, allowing onion imports to resume the following morning.

He added that all product imports, including potatoes, would resume once the remaining problems are addressed.

Hili Customs officials reported that this week, a total of 55 trucks carrying 2,200 metric tons of rice, 166 trucks with 4,700 metric tons of potatoes, and 45 trucks with 1,300 metric tons of onions were imported through the port.
