Former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak has admitted that the internet was shut down during the July-August genocide under the instructions of Sheikh Hasina.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tazul Islam disclosed the information during a press briefing on Thursday (Dec 19).
He said that Palak confessed during quizzing at the tribunal that the internet shutdown aimed to conceal the genocide.
Tazul Islam said the shutdown was not caused by accidents or building fires during the mass uprising.
According to Palak, all internet gateways, both domestic and international, were deliberately closed on Sheikh Hasina's order to prevent the spread of information about the genocide, he added.
