The second namaz-e-janaza for the interim government's Adviser for Aviation and Tourism and Land, AF Hassan Ariff, was held on the High Court premises on Saturday morning (Dec 21).
Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain, Senior Advocate Dr. Kamal Hossain, Barrister M. Amir-ul Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Mia Golam Parwar, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, and other senior advocates attended the event.
Muaz Ariff, son of AF Hasan Ariff, along with junior advocate Ashiq Al Jalil, shared heartfelt remembrances during the ceremony.
Barrister AA Mahbub Uddin Khokon, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, officiated the janaza proceedings.
Ariff passed away on Friday at a hospital in Dhaka at the age of 85.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Baitul Aman Mosque on Dhanmondi Road 7 following the Isha prayers on Friday.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus attended the prayer service. Upon arriving at the airport, Yunus visited Labaid Hospital in Dhanmondi to pay his respects and expressed profound sorrow at Ariff's death.
A third namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held at 12 pm at the Bangladesh Secretariat, organized by the Ministry of LGRD, Land, and Civil Aviation, according to Ahsan Karim, the public relations officer of the land minister.
Decisions regarding Ariff's burial will be made after the arrival of his daughter, who is currently abroad.
Ariff was appointed as an adviser to the interim government on August 8 and initially tasked with overseeing the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives (LGRD).
On August 27, he took on additional responsibilities for the Ministry of Land. Later, on November 10, he was reassigned from the LGRD Ministry to manage the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism while continuing his duties with the Land Ministry.
