The well-marked low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, bringing the possibility of light to moderate rainfall to Dhaka and six other divisions.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain is expected in several areas starting from 9 am on Saturday.
“Light to moderate rain may occur at a few places in Khulna, Barishal, and Dhaka divisions and at one or two places in Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Chattogram divisions,” the department stated.
Elsewhere in the country, the weather is likely to remain predominantly dry with temporarily partly cloudy skies.
Light to moderate fog may form in some regions during the night and early morning hours.
The depression, which formed after the low-pressure system moved northeastward and intensified last evening, is now situated over the West-central Bay and surrounding areas. It is expected to continue moving in a north-northeasterly direction.
The ridge of the subcontinental high-pressure system extends into Bihar and its adjacent areas.
Maritime ports, including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra, have been advised to keep distant cautionary signal number one hoisted.
As of 6 am on Saturday, the depression was centered approximately 1,265 km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,220 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar, and 1,140 km southwest of both Mongla and Payra ports, according to the Meteorological Department’s bulletin.
