Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Monday (Dec 30), at the Chief Justice's office.
The Ambassador, accompanied by a three-member delegation, exchanged greetings and discussed the long-standing bilateral ties between Bangladesh and China.
They also explored avenues for strengthening judicial cooperation between the two nations.
The Supreme Court administration said that the Ambassador commended the Chief Justice’s recent initiatives toward institutional independence of the judiciary.
He expressed optimism that the Chief Justice’s leadership would significantly contribute to ensuring justice and good governance in Bangladesh.
Ambassador Yao reiterated China’s readiness to support Bangladesh in building a robust judiciary, including implementing joint training programs for judges from both countries.
He also extended an invitation to the Chief Justice to visit China.
Additionally, the Ambassador informed the Chief Justice about China's support in providing medical equipment to treat those injured during the July-August uprisings.
He highlighted China's assistance in managing the recent floods across Bangladesh and expressed hope for continued collaboration between the two countries.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the rule of law in post-revolutionary Bangladesh.
He assured full cooperation from the Supreme Court to enhance bilateral judicial ties and emphasized the judiciary’s dedication to safeguarding human rights.
