Legal notice sent for Mawa toll plaza accident compensation

A Supreme Court lawyer today issued legal notices to the relevant authorities following the fatal accident at Dhaleshwari toll plaza on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway, which claimed six lives on December 27.

Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab, on behalf of the Law and Life Foundation, sent legal notices to officials, including the Chairman of BRTA and the Additional Inspector General of Highway Police.

The incident occurred when a Bepari Paribahan bus collided with a private car, motorcycle, and microbus, which were waiting to pay the toll.

The primary investigation revealed that the bus lacked an updated fitness certificate, and the driver's license had expired.

Additionally, the driver admitted to using cannabis before the accident.

The notice emphasized that the crash was a result of gross negligence by both the authorities responsible for vehicle fitness and licensing, as well as the bus owner for operating an unfit vehicle with an unqualified driver.

The victims' families are set to receive compensation of one crore taka each, as the legal process unfolds.
