The Secretariat fire that broke out last Wednesday night was caused by an electrical spark, according to BUET’s former mechanical engineering professor Maksud Helali, a member of the investigation committee.

The fire engulfed the seventh building of the Secretariat and required 19 fire service units working for six hours to bring it under control. 

It destroyed documents, computers, and furniture in offices of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry, Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, Posts and Telecommunications Ministry, Youth and Sports Ministry, and Labour and Employment Ministry.
