Two passengers of a battery-run van were killed when a covered van overturned and fell on it in Sahebnagar area of Mirpur upazila in Kushtia, on Tuesday afternoon. 

The accident occurred around 5 pm on the Kushtia-Pabna highway.

The deceased were identified as Bitu Gayan, 30, son of Tokkel Pramanik, and Gura Sardar, 75, both residents of Sahebnagar village in Mirpur.

According to police and local sources, the Sundarban Courier Service’s covered van lost control over its steering and overturned while heading towards Veramara from Kushtia. The van fell onto the battery-run vehicle, crushing its passengers. Both victims died on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Al Mamun of Chourhas Highway Police confirmed the matter. 

Legal actions are being taken regarding the incident, he added.
