Mahfuzul Haque Mia, the three-time chairman of the Nolmuri Union Parishad in Gosairhat Upazila of Shariatpur district and the joint general secretary of the Nalmuri union Awami League, died of dengue on Wednesday (January 1).
He breathed his last around 4 am while undergoing treatment at the BIRDEM Hospital in Shahbagh, Dhaka.
His condition had deteriorated over the past few days due to the viral infection. Upon his worsening health, he was transferred to the hospital, where he succumbed to the illness.
Following his death, his Janaza was held on Thursday (January 2) after the Zuhr prayer in his hometown of Nalmuri union. His body was later laid to rest at the family graveyard.
Mahfuzul Haque Mia left behind his wife, two daughters, one son, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Matiur Rahman Mintu Bepari, president of the Gosairhat Municipality Awami League, said that Mahfuzul Haque Mia had been suffering from dengue fever for the last four to five days. Despite receiving treatment, his condition worsened.
Mahfuzul Haque Mia was widely respected in the region for his political service. He had served as chairman of the Nalmuri union Parishad for three consecutive terms and was an active leader in the Nalmuri union Awami League, where he held the position of joint general secretary.
His passing has left a deep void in the local community, and numerous political, social, and civic leaders from both Shariatpur district and Gosairhat upazila have expressed their heartfelt condolences to his grieving family.
Mahfuzul Haque Mia's death marks the loss of a dedicated public servant who played an instrumental role in the development of Nalmuri union and the wider Gosairhat region.
