The inflation rate in Bangladesh decreased to 10.89% in December, compared to 11.38% in November, according to data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday (Jan 6).
Food inflation also saw a decline, dropping to 12.92% in December from 13.80% in the previous month, providing some relief to low-income households.
The reduction in inflation was driven by lower prices of essential items, including fresh vegetables.
However, despite the decline, the inflation rate remains significantly above the government’s target of keeping it below 7.0%.
