A businessman was hacked to death by unidentified assailants on Monday night in the Rampur Jorapol area of Nabagram Union, Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila.

Sudeb Halder, 28, son of Subrata Halder from Betra village, owned a mobile phone shop at the Baukathi Bazar. 

According to family and police sources, Sudeb was attacked on his way home after closing his shop around midnight.

Local residents discovered his body on the road Tuesday morning and alerted the police. 

The body was recovered and sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital for autopsy, confirmed Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station.

Legal action regarding the incident is underway.
