DHAKA: The voting in Dhaka Bar Association election 2014-15 has begun at lawyers’ association auditorium of Dhaka Bar in the capital on Wednesday morning.

The two-day voting started at 9:00am and will continue till 5:00pm with an hour break.

Election Commissioner Nazrul Islam Shamim told banglanews, “Some 71 candidates are vying for 25 posts of Dhaka Bar.”

Some 71 candidates are taking part in this election under the banner of Awami League-backed white panel, BNP-Jamaat backed Blue Panel and Rebel candidates’ Green panel.

Besides, Independent candidate SM Nazrul Islam is fighting for general secretary post.

Election Commissioner Shamim said that a total 14,310 lawyers, who are voters of Supreme Court Bar Association, will cast their votes and last year which was 13,244.

Earlier on January 29, an election commission had been formed comprising six election commissioners, 54 members and one chief election commissioner in this connection.

Former president of Dhaka Bar Advocate Abdus Sabur was made the chief election commissioner for the election.

Six other commissioners are former senior vice-president Advocate Sahab Uddin, vice president Advocate Ali Ahmed, vice president Advocate Ekhlasur Rahman, former treasurer Mohammad Mohsin, current treasurer Nazrul Islam Shamim and Advocate Matiur Rahman Bhuiyan.
