Members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested five people with a large quantity of banned polythene and a pickup truck near Asiyan Palace in the capital's Bangshal area.

The arrestees were identified as Anam Fakhrul Islam, 50, Md. Habibur Rahman, 26, Enamul Haque, 28, Md. Azizul Islam, 35, and Md. Zakir Sardar, 32. 

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter on Thursday (January 9).

According to Bangshal police, acting on a tip-off, officers set up a checkpoint on Abul Hasnat Road on Wednesday as the vehicles approached the checkpoint the drivers attempted to flee but were apprehended by the police. 

The seized vehicles and polythene are now in police custody for further investigation, said police.
