BNP candidate boycotts poll in Barisal

BARISAL: The BNP-backed chairman candidate boycotted the polls in Sadar upazila on Thursday on allegation of vote manipulation.

Chairman aspirant Kazi Enayet Hossain Bachcu came up with the declaration of poll boycott through a press conference around 11:15am at the residence of city BNP President Mojibur Rahman Sarwar.

Later, BNP called a daylong hartal in the district town as well as in the upazila for Sunday.

On the other hand, Sazzad Hossain, a presiding officer, was withdrawn for his alleged involvement in casting fake votes in the upazila.

Besides, this two other persons were held by the law enforcers for adopting unfair way in the polls.

Senior Returning Officer of the district M Dulal Talukder said that the authority has taken necessary initiatives against the complaints. “Moreover, the situation is now under control,” he added.

Deputy Police Commissioner (South) ATM Mujahidul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
