Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin reiterated that the Election Commission (EC) has no intention of engaging in politics, focusing instead on ensuring a free and fair election process.
Speaking at an event in Dhaka on Sunday, he emphasized the EC's commitment to working within the framework of laws and regulations to create a level playing field for all political parties.
The CEC made the remarks during the handover of laptops, scanners, and other equipment provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to assist in updating the voter list.
He expressed appreciation for the prompt support from UNDP, a long-time development partner of Bangladesh, highlighting the importance of this equipment in the electoral process.
Nasir Uddin confirmed that the voter list update would begin on January 20 and expressed hope that continued support from UNDP would help ensure a fair and transparent national election.
