8 hit by bullets in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ: At least eight people sustained bullet injures in a clash between police and BNP activists in Sipahipara area under Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The critically injured are Sadar Upazila BNP president Mohammad Hossain Pusti, activists Rasel Bapari, Jitu Hawlader, Rashid, Shahjahan, Sazu, Faruk.

Local sources said that BNP activists brought out a procession at around 9:30am and they put blockade on roads in the area.  When police protest them and tried to remove blockade that triggered a clash.

At one stage, BNP activists started vandalizing vehicles and also throwing brick chips aiming police. Later, police fired three-round shotgun bullets to bring the situation under control, leaving eight people injured by bullets.

Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
