Titumir College students block Gulshan-Mohakhali road

Students of Government Titumir College have blocked the Gulshan-Mohakhali road today, demanding recognition as an independent university, causing a complete halt in traffic on the busy thoroughfare.

They gathered in front of Titumir College around 12:30pm and used bamboo barricades to obstruct the road.

As part of the ongoing protest, six students have been on hunger strike for the past six days at the main entrance of the college.

Due to the road blockade, all traffic on the Mohakhali-Gulshan road has come to a standstill. However, emergency vehicles, including ambulances, are being allowed to pass. Notably, no law enforcement personnel have been seen at the protest site so far.

On Sunday, the protesting students announced their "Barasat Barricade to North City" and "College Shutdown" programs. As part of their movement, they have put forward three key demands:

1. Official recognition of Titumir College as Titumir University, along with the publication of its academic calendar.

2. Immediate withdrawal of the Education Advisor’s statement and assurance of international-standard higher education in all institutions, granting recognition based on merit and institutional qualifications.

3. A proper investigation into the alleged pressure exerted by the Legal Advisor on the Ministry of Education regarding the formation of the Titumir University Commission. The Legal Advisor must publicly apologize for disrupting state affairs.
