A sub-inspector of the Uttara West police station has been withdrawn following the detention of three students from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Uttara, Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Uttara Division Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ahmed Ali confirmed the matter.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Sayeed was removed from his position after complaints were lodged by the students regarding their detention during a protest on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred when the students held a meeting on Gausul Azam Avenue in Uttara Sector 13.
During the gathering, SI Abu Sayeed and his team detained three students—Asiful Haque Robin from IUB, Akash from Uttara Town Degree College, and Bappi from BIST in Gazipur.
The detentions sparked protests from fellow students, who marched toward the police station demanding their release.
Tensions escalated as demonstrators blocked a highway and reportedly attacked the police station, resulting in injuries to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mehedi.
Senior police officials, including the deputy commissioner of the Uttara Division, intervened and engaged in discussions at the scene.
By 9 pm, the detained students were released, and a written complaint was submitted to the police seeking clarification.
