Bangladesh protests Sheikh Hasina’s audio speech from India

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned India’s acting High Commissioner in Dhaka to protest an online audio speech by Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after being ousted in a student-led uprising.

Foreign Affairs Adviser M. Touhid Hossain informed the matter on Thursday (Feb 6).

He said that Sheikh Hasina made an “inciting” speech on Wednesday.

“We had earlier urged India to ensure that she does not make provocative statements from there. However, she spoke again yesterday. That is why we have sent a protest note to India,” he said.

In response, India informed Bangladesh that Sheikh Hasina is using foreign platforms, particularly from the United States, and not any Indian platform to deliver her statements.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the protest note expressed deep concern, disappointment, and strong objections from the Bangladesh government, as such remarks hurt the sentiments of the Bangladeshi people.

The ministry further stressed that her actions are considered hostile toward Bangladesh and do not help in fostering healthy relations between the two countries.

Bangladesh has urged the Indian government to take appropriate steps immediately in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding.

The government also requested India to prevent Sheikh Hasina from making what it called “false, fabricated, and inciting” statements through social media and other communication channels while residing in India.
