PM reaches Nay Pyi Taw

FROM Nay Pyi Taw: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached Myanmar on Monday morning to attend the 3rd BIMSTEC Summit to be held in its capital city Nay Pyi Taw on March 4.

A special flight of Bangladesh Biman, national carrier of the country, carrying the premier with 32-member delegation landed Nay Pyi Taw around 10:15am (Myanmar local time).

U Aye Myint, Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, welcomed her at Nay Pyi Taw International Airport.

During the time, children and girls, wearing their traditional dresses, greeted the Premier at the airport.

Later, Sheikh Hasina went to Nay Pyi Taw Royal Hotel where she would hold a meeting with U Thein Sein, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at 2:30pm local time.

Prime Minister also will hold a meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi, opposition politician and chairperson of National League for Democracy, at Assembly of the Union (parliament building).

Earlier in the day, Cabinet members and government high-ups were present at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to bid farewell to the Premier.

On the sidelines of the summit, Sheikh Hasina will hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts of the BIMSTEC member-countries, including India, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan.

Memorandum of Association (MoA) on the Establishment of BIMSTEC Permanent Secretariat in Dhaka, Memorandum of Association (MoA) on the Establishment of BIMSTEC Centre for Weather and Climate in India and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the BIMSTEC Culture Industries Commission and BIMSTEC Cultural Industries Observatory to be set up in Bhutan are expected to be signed during the summit.

The Premier is likely to return home on Tuesday night.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is an international organisation involving a group of countries, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal, was formed in 1997.
