A protest against an attack by Awami League activists on anti-discrimination student demonstrators led to the blockade of Rajbari Road in Gazipur district town.
On Saturday (February 8) afternoon, Anti-Discrimination Movement demonstrators gathered in front of the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner's office, halting traffic as part of their demonstration.
The protest followed an incident on Friday night (February 7), when Awami League supporters allegedly attacked students at the residence of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur City Corporation's Dhirashram area. At least 14 students were reportedly injured.
In response, students, activists, and members of various organizations have been staging marches and protests in front of Rajbari ground and the Deputy Commissioner's office since Saturday morning.
The National Citizens Committee organized a protest rally at Rajbari ground, while demonstrators also took to Rajbari Road, chanting slogans against oppression.
At one point, they blocked the road in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office, causing a complete halt in traffic. Vehicles were later redirected through Hospital Road, Banglanews correspondent reports.
During the protest, students and demonstrators issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding justice for the attack on those advocating against discrimination.
