The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today placed Armed Police Battalion (APBn) constable Mohammad Sujan on a one-day remand, following his involvement in a shooting during a student protest in the Chankharpul area of Dhaka on August 5, 2024.
The two-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, passed the order, granting the prosecution's plea.
"The tribunal placed Sujan on a one-day remand, scheduled for February 12, 2025," prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud told the media.
Sujan, who was seen firing a rifle at protesters near Shaikh Burhanuddin Post Graduate College, was arrested in January 2025 in connection with crimes against humanity and genocide. Video footage of the incident, where Sujan was seen celebrating after hitting protesters, went viral on social media.
The prosecution has submitted screenshots from the footage as evidence.
Sujan, initially handed over by the APBn to the Detective Branch in September 2024, is now in custody following his involvement in a murder case linked to the incident.
The tribunal also issued arrest warrants for several other accused in separate cases related to atrocities in Uttara, Rampura, and Gulshan areas.
