Dhaka ranked sixth among cities with the worst air quality on Tuesday morning, with an AQI score of 171, indicating unhealthy air conditions.
The air was classified as ‘unhealthy’ at 8:31 am on Tuesday (Feb 18), according to the AQI index.
Pakistan’s Lahore topped the list with an AQI of 289, followed by Cairo (217) and Yangon (192).
An AQI between 150 and 200 is considered unhealthy, posing health risks to the general public, particularly sensitive groups.
Dhaka has long struggled with air pollution, worsening in winter and improving during monsoon.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that air pollution causes around seven million deaths globally each year due to diseases like stroke, heart disease, and lung infections.
