ACC recovers documents of ex-IGP Shahidul's illegal assets

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recovered two sacks of documents related to Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque’s illegal assets from a relative’s house.

However, former IGP has allegedly amassed a huge amount of illegal wealth through dishonest means.

An investigation is underway against him, according to ACC sources on Wednesday (February 19).

Sources said that during the probe, ACC obtained intelligence report that Shahidul Haque had sent documents containing details of his illegal wealth to a relative in two sacks.

Later, in an attempt to hide them, the documents were sent to another relative’s house. The documents reportedly contain information about assets worth crores of taka acquired unlawfully, said sources.

Following this, a five-member ACC team, led by Assistant Director Rakibul Hayat, conducted a search operation from midnight to early morning on February 18.

After search operation the team recovered 48 pieces of evidence of 38 different types, including property deeds, confidential agreements, deeds of agreement, power of attorney documents, memorandums of association, bonds, fixed deposit receipts (FDR) copies, offer letters, and bank statements.

Considering these documents crucial to the investigation, ACC officials seized them at 12:30 am in the presence of neutral witnesses.
