Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said the law and order situation in the city is generally good.
He made the remarks on Thursday (February 20) following a visit to the Central Shaheed Minar.
Speaking to journalists, the DMP Commissioner assured that, aside from a few scattered incidents, there were no significant crimes in the city.
Referring to a recent incident in Uttara, which involved a gang of five teenagers from Tongi, DMP boss said the suspects were arrested and charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act, with a request for their remand.
Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said the police have handled the situation effectively and that overall law and order is stable.
"There are no major issues with law and order; everything is normal," he added.
Regarding the security arrangements at the Central Shaheed Minar, the Commissioner assured the public that strict measures have been implemented, including multiple layers of security. Police, along with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and other forces, will coordinate to ensure safety. Security measures will be intensified from the evening, with metal detectors and manual body checks to prevent any hazardous materials or explosives from being brought into the area.
The Shaheed Minar will be open to the public from 12:40 AM, and safety measures will be reinforced with police mobile teams within a one-kilometer radius.
