The Arakan Army, an armed group from Myanmar, has taken 19 Bangladeshi fishermen along with four fishing trawlers from the Naf River in Teknaf.
The incident happened between Thursday (February 20) morning and noon near Shah Porir Island, Gholarchar, and Naikkhongdia areas of the river.
Earlier, on February 10, four Bangladeshi fishermen were taken from the river’s estuary, and they have yet to be released.
A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official, requesting anonymity, confirmed that they are aware of the incident and are looking into the matter while making efforts to bring the fishermen back.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin said they are in communication with BGB and will work together to ensure the safe return of the detained fishermen.
