DHAKA: Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) recommended considering increasing retail tariff by 6 percent on average for DPDC customers.
Earlier in the day, Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) and Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO) have proposed increasing electricity tariff by 23.50 percent and 15.90 percent respectively to cut growing losses.
The mass hearing was held on the proposal placed by DPDC on Wednesday morning while the hearing will be held on proposal of DESCO in afternoon.
Earlier on Tuesday, the BERC recommended considering increasing retail tariff by 6.66 percent on average for PDB customers and 7.51 percent for WZPDC customers.
After mass hearing on the proposals of Power Development Board (PDB) and West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDC) of increasing electricity tariff by 15.50 percent and 8.59 percent respectively, the BERC came up with the recommendations.
In September 2012, the increased BERC last the retail power tariff by 15 percent to Tk 5.75 per unit.
The government has already given a nod to the energy ministry`s move to increase the price for cutting subsidies.
