Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus said on Tuesday (Feb 26) that the interim government is expected to hold general elections by the end of the year.
He made this remark during a meeting with Zarah Bruhn, a commissioner of the German government, at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.
Seeking Germany's support in implementing the government's reform initiatives, Prof Yunus emphasized the importance of international collaboration.
"We need all your support for the New Bangladesh. We are working hard to make the general election a success," he said.
Highlighting Germany’s strong economy and innovation, Prof Yunus expressed Dhaka’s aspiration for a deeper economic partnership with Berlin.
"We have close relations with Germany, but we want a different relationship -- a special relationship -- with Germany," he added.
Zarah Bruhn, who is in Bangladesh to explore social businesses and microcredit initiatives, commended Prof Yunus’ leadership, expressing optimism about Bangladesh’s progress under his stewardship.
"I am a big enthusiast of your work," she said, adding that she is eager to launch social businesses in Germany.
During their discussion, they also addressed key topics such as the Three Zero Movement initiated by Prof Yunus, strategies for poverty alleviation, and the evolving landscape of welfare states.
Lamiya Morshed, senior secretary and head of SDG Affairs in the Bangladesh government, was also present at the meeting.
