The government has renamed the country’s communication satellite “Bangabandhu Satellite-1” as “Bangladesh Satellite-1.”
A gazette notification in this regard was issued on Monday (March 3) by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
According to notification, the proposal to rename Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (BS-1) as Bangladesh Satellite-1 (BS-1) had been approved by the Chief Adviser. Authorities have been instructed to take the necessary steps following the decision.
Earlier, the decision to rename the satellite was made during a meeting of the Advisory Council.
Launched in 2018 from the Kennedy Space Center in the United States, the satellite was developed by French company Thales Alenia Space at a cost of nearly Tk 3,000 crore.
