Man killed in Rajshahi fuel station fire

A man was killed after a fire broke out at a fuel station in the Madariganj market of Bagmara, Rajshahi, on Monday (March 3).

The deceased was identified as Abdul Awal, a 65-year-old.

Awal, the owner of the fuel station was trying to control the fire when he suddenly fell ill. 

Eyewitnesses informed the police that the fire broke out due to a cigarette's spark. Upon receiving the news, the fire service rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames, but the store was completely destroyed before they arrived.

Awal was immediately taken to Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital, but unfortunately, he passed away during treatment at around 1:30 PM on Monday.

Bagmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhidul Islam confirmed the matter.

He said that the fire was caused by a cigarette. 

The exact extent of the damage is yet to be determined, and necessary steps are being taken, he added.
