Dhaka air quality remains unhealthy Tuesday morning

Dhaka ranked seventh globally for the worst air quality on Tuesday morning, with an AQI score of 159 at 8:54 AM, placing it in the "unhealthy" category.

According to the AQI index, air quality in the city was considered hazardous for sensitive groups.

The list's top spots were occupied by Baghdad, Delhi, and Kampala, with AQI scores of 294, 171, and 165, respectively.

The AQI system categorizes air quality based on the levels of pollution: scores between 101-150 indicate "unhealthy for sensitive groups," while scores between 150-200 are deemed "unhealthy."

AQI values over 200 are classified as "very unhealthy," with those exceeding 300 considered "hazardous."

Dhaka's air quality has long been a concern, especially during the winter months.

The AQI measures pollutants like PM10, PM2.5, NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.

According to the WHO, air pollution claims approximately seven million lives annually, contributing to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
