Abdus Samad, 52, who was shot during the anti-government uprising on August 5 in Debidwar, Cumilla, has passed away.
He died of a heart attack at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Dhaka at 3 pm on Tuesday (March 4).
Samad, a resident of Dhamati Uttarpara village in Debidwar upazila, was the son of Md Asmat Ali and a ward-level BNP member.
Nahidul Islam Nahid, a member of the Debidwar unit of the National Citizens' Committee, said Samad was critically injured by police gunfire in front of Reyaz Uddin Government Model Pilot High School during the uprising that led to the fall of the Hasina government on August 5 last year.
Debidwar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamsuddin Mohammad Ilyas said Samad sustained a gunshot wound in his thigh and was receiving treatment at home.
A case related to the incident is ongoing at the International Crimes Tribunal, he said.
